Este proyecto rescata la memoria de las tallas humanas grabadas sobre las rocas de la costa marplatense a lo largo de décadas. Realizadas por visitantes anónimos, muchas de estas marcas permanecen como huellas silenciosas del paso de miles de personas por la ciudad; algunas tienen más de cien años.
Durante la pandemia, en las primeras salidas permitidas, recorrí la costa desde Alfonsina hasta Playa Grande y realicé un registro fotográfico de cientos de estas tallas. La marea baja permitía descubrir, entre las rocas, un archivo construido lentamente por quienes sintieron la necesidad de dejar algo de sí en el paisaje.
Nombres, fechas, iniciales, dibujos y mensajes de amor. Marcas hechas por personas de las que probablemente nunca sabremos nada. ¿Quiénes fueron? ¿Qué les estaba sucediendo cuando decidieron grabar esas palabras? ¿Qué significa que todavía podamos encontrarlas hoy?
El proyecto parte de una pregunta sencilla: ¿por qué necesitamos dejar huella? Quizás porque escribir nuestro nombre, registrar un momento o marcar un lugar es también una forma de afirmar que estuvimos allí, que algo nos pasó, que existimos. Un gesto antiguo que hoy se repite de otras maneras: una fotografía, una publicación, un mensaje en redes.
Las fotografías convierten esas marcas anónimas en memoria compartida y las trasladan a imanes, pequeños fragmentos portátiles de la ciudad. Un monumento hecho por humanos —porque los humanos también somos naturaleza— y conservado, transformado y eventualmente borrado por el mar.
(EN) This project preserves the memory of human carvings made into the rocks along the coast of Mar del Plata over the course of decades. Created by anonymous visitors, many of these marks remain as silent traces of thousands of people who passed through the city; some are more than a hundred years old.
During the pandemic, in the first days when people were allowed to go outside again, I walked the coast from Alfonsina to Playa Grande and photographed hundreds of these carvings. At low tide, an archive slowly built by people who felt the need to leave something of themselves in the landscape emerged among the rocks.
Names, dates, initials, drawings, and love messages. Marks made by people we will probably never know. Who were they? What were they experiencing when they decided to carve those words? What does it mean that we can still find them today?
The project begins with a simple question: why do we need to leave a trace? Perhaps because writing our name, recording a moment, or marking a place is also a way of affirming that we were there, that something happened to us, that we existed. An ancient gesture that today takes other forms: a photograph, a post, a message on social media.
The photographs transform these anonymous marks into shared memories and transfer them onto magnets, small portable fragments of the city. A monument made by humans — because humans are also nature — and preserved, transformed, and eventually erased by the sea.
